This is how we do it. Maybe 2-3 minutes of some basic streatching then we partner up and do 20 arm bars, 20 triangles, 20 umas, and 20 side control conversions. I usually have a good sweat going by then. Then it;s off to the daily lesson.

Belts only as good as the person wearing it. One of the most technically skilled instructors and jiu jitsu competitors I've ever known is a massive sack of sh*t!

Can't say I would ever submit myself to a belt test or promotion class.

Effenciency usually trumped by effectiveness

53 years old, been training for 9 months. Enjoying the heck out of the journey, but my body isn’t keeping up with what I want it to do. Back, r shoulder, l hand and l calf is giving me trouble, atm. I’d love put in four classes and four open mat sessions per week and get my blue belt before 54, but … there’s just no way I could. Trying something like that would get me too injured to train within a month, or tops two. I have to constantly be alert for new warnings from the old rustbucket I’m operating, and then I have write reverse to-do lists to force myself to back off and go light and slow and take rest days and so on and so forth. It is what it is, and if nothing big changes I’m calculating blue belt in 3-5 years. But that’s a significant “if”. We’ll see what happens.

At 33 yr old ex football player (Offensive Lineman) here, I'm already hurting more than I should after 10 round Tuesday. I realized quite fast there's only so many gym battles you can get in on some particularly brutal mats at my gym. I'm prioritizing drilling and being deliberate about how many of those Tuesday death matches I engage in. Or just break more between tough rounds like that.

I always had similar problems with the headphones. Bought a pair of Powerbeats Pros a year or so ago and they're easily the best headphones for activity and everything else I've ever had.

I came to verify what the difference is between a heel hook, and leg lock. My professor says not heel hooks, but I tried a leg lock the other day, and he seemed to get mad about it, although three blie belts have done it to me, and told me that it's okay to do. Why woukd bkue belts be able to do leg locks to me as a white belt, and I wouldn't be abld to do it to them?

Complete different perspective from you on internal vs external motivation. I feel that internal motivation is a better approach for guiding life, just my two cents.

I am not willing to be put in bad position even to keep it playful. That is how I get hurt. Stay on top as much as possible. Tap immediately to any good submission. Use frames and submissions. I admit that I do let whites and blues tap me out so they gain confidence when I feel safe. Follow the hip. I will give that a go.

Rarely worth getting worried (or excited) by mechanistic studies. Look at the outcomes. Do coffee drinkers have brain problems? I notice Alzheimer’s Society website states coffee is associated with a reduction in chances of dementia.

Can't wait till you're 100 those courses will be free!
